Organic Japanese Matcha
Organic matcha is produced without the synthetic pesticides, herbicides and fertilisers prohibited under the relevant organic certification standard.
At UJIHA, we believe the organic label should be useful information, not the entire reason to choose a matcha. Taste, origin, producer, cultivar and how you plan to drink it still matter.
That is why we provide as much information as we can about each matcha we stock.
Organic Matcha from Japan
Producing high-quality organic matcha can be challenging. Tea plants grown for matcha are shaded before harvest, and growers must manage the tea fields while working within organic farming requirements.
The result can vary greatly between farms, cultivars and harvests.
Rather than assuming organic automatically means better matcha, we select teas that we believe are worth drinking.
Organic or Traditionally Grown Matcha?
Neither is automatically better for everyone.
Organic matcha is a good choice if certified organic farming is important to you. Traditionally grown matcha gives tea producers access to different agricultural methods and can offer a different range of flavour profiles.
We stock both so you can choose based on what matters to you.
Look for the organic certification information on each product page to confirm how a particular matcha has been certified.
Find an Organic Matcha You Enjoy
Some organic matcha is light and refreshing. Others can be creamy, rich and full of umami.
Instead of looking for the matcha with the biggest claims on the packet, start with the flavour you enjoy and how you normally prepare it.
Explore our organic Japanese matcha collection and find the one that tastes right to you.
